We have gathered all of the most frequently asked questions and problems relating to the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class in one spot to help you decide if it's a smart buy.

Are there problems or repair expenses to be aware of when buying a 2014 Mercedes-Benz C250

The service intervals for this model were every 15,000km or 12 months, so the fact that so many for sale have the same mileage showing is more likely to be a coincidence or the fact that at 10 years of age, most owners have been covering the national average of about 13,000km per year.

Some cars that need timing belt replacements often hit the second-hand market all together as the owners try to avoid the cost of this, but the engine in your car has a timing chain which should be good for the life of the vehicle.

Other factors contributing to the pack-trade-in phenomenon include psychological barriers like a mileage of 100,000km recorded and the age of the car. In this case, the car’s 10th birthday might be the catalyst for the mass selling.

Good sedan for long trips?

A second-hand C-Class is a great choice but, if you can, stretch to the latest C200. It's a landmark car, gets The Tick from me and was an easy winner in our 2014 Car of the Year.

Lexus or Mercedes-Benz?

The Benz is so far ahead of the Lexus that it's not even a contest. The C-Class gets The Tick and is also one of the favourites for our Car of the Year award. I wouldn't bother with the C250 unless it has some standard features you like, because the C200 is a brilliant car.

Run flat tyres on new Mercedes-Benz

Fitting run-flats is a commercial decision by the company, no doubt it saves money. Not having a spare is not a massive issue for most Australians who rarely stray too far from civilization, but obviously can be for someone who does venture into remote parts. Those people would probably be wise to carry a spare.

Should I buy a Mercedes-Benz C63?

I'd go for the 507 every time. It gets The Tick in a big way and is even more fun than an A45. The biggest cost will be rear tyres.
