The 2026 Denza B5 represents a significant shift for BYD as it introduces its premium sub-brand to the Australian market. Originally founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, Denza has evolved into a luxury powerhouse. This large SUV arrived in local showrooms in late 2025, marking the start of a new era for electrified off-roaders in Australia.
In its home market of China, this model is known as the Fangchengbao Leopard 5. BYD chose to rebadge it under the Denza name for the Australian launch to streamline its luxury offering. The vehicle uses a ladder-frame chassis shared with the Shark 6 utility, combined with a sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain. This setup provides serious torque and genuine 4x4 capability for local buyers.
In Australia the Denza B5 launched alongside the larger B8 to compete with established prestige rivals. While it remains in its first generation, the model benefits from BYD’s latest blade battery technology and DMO off-road platform. It serves as a high-tech alternative to traditional diesel wagons, offering a blend of quiet electric driving and long-range petrol flexibility for regional touring.
The line-up currently starts at $74,990 for the B5 (base) and ranges through to $79,990 for the range-topping B5 Leopard.

Feeding the Denza B5's electric motors is a 31.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery which Denza claims allows the B5 to travel up to 100km on electric power alone, according to NEDC testing.
There’s also an 83L fuel tank. Denza claims the B5 has a total range of 975km, according to NEDC testing.
