Watch out BMW X5 and X6! 2024 Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe SUV specifications confirmed for Australia

Genesis has revealed more details of its updated GV80 SUV and new Coupe.

Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, has sharpened its offerings as it looks to make ground in the increasingly competitive luxury car market.

The updated GV80 and GV80 Coupe are due in Australia this month (April) with a slimmed down line-up - and simplification is the name of the game for the slowly growing brand.

Both models will be exclusively powered by the brand’s 3.5-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine, with the 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol dropped (despite making up almost a quarter of GV80 sales) and the 3.5T E-Supercharger Coupe model offered overseas not homologated for Australia; which makes 305kW/550Nm.

The suspension settings have been revised for the GV80 SUV, with the local arm choosing to take the global tune rather than due a local ride and handling program. The GV80 Coupe gets its own bespoke suspension package for a different driving experience.

Another major change is the decision to make the previously optional Luxury Pack standard across the range. Genesis admitted the Luxury Pack had a 95 per cent uptake on local models, so it made sense to simplify the local offerings. In fact, with this new, streamlined line-up, the only options will be matte paint and rear seat entertainment.

Although there are no shortage of colour and trim options, with 11 exterior paint colours, 11 interior colours and five trim materials to select from.

There are a number of other notable upgrades for this facelifted 2024 line-up over the previous GV80. These include a new 22-inch alloy wheel design, a new-look grille and redesigned front and rear bumpers as well as LED headlights with Genesis’ intelligent front lighting system.

The updated GV80 and GV80 Coupe are due in Australia this month (April).

Inside there are more changes, with a new 27-inch OLED integrated display, an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a new three-spoke steering wheel design, digital rear-view mirror, connected car services (similar to Hyundai Blue Link) and fingerprint recognition. There’s also a new centre console design that incorporates a UV-C sterilisation storage area and a heated armrest.

Safety has been upgraded too, with new Highway Driving Assist (mild autonomous functionality), an “in-cabin camera” and upgraded forward collision avoidance, lane following assistance and remote smart parking (which can now assist with diagonal parking spots).

With the addition of the new GV80 Coupe, Genesis will offer it with five seats while the SUV will have the option of a six- or seven-seat layout at extra cost.

The new GV80 Coupe will be set apart from the SUV with its unique styling touches. Designed to provide a sportier look the different elements include bespoke 22-inch alloy wheels, a different front bumper, dual-exhaust tips and a rear spoiler.

The GV80 features a new 22-inch alloy wheel design.

Inside there’s a flat-bottom steering wheel, alloy pedals and real carbon-fibre trim to separate it from the SUV. The Coupe also gets Sport+ mode and brake mode select, in keeping with its more dynamic character.

Genesis recently announced the new Magma performance sub-brand, which was teased initially with the launch of the GV80 Coupe Concept.

The company has said it will offer a Magma variant of every model in its line-up, but hasn’t indicated when the GV80 Magma is expected in showrooms.

Instead, the GV60 Magma is likely to be the first product to reach Australia, given the concept shown at the New York Motor Show was close to production and sits on the same platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
