Too late! Nissan Z Nismo sells out within an hour as muscled-up Toyota GR Supra GTS rival flies online

The Nissan Z Nismo is now sold out.

If you were biding your time to put an order in for a Nissan Z Nismo, you're already too late, with the brand's halo performance car selling out online in less than an hour.

Nissan Australia secured just 100 examples of the Z Nismo for 2023 – though it hasn't ruled out further production down the line – with the vehicles first offered to people already in the Z queue, with whatever was left then offered online on a first come, first serve basis.

By the time orders opened this morning, there were some 50 cars left, all of which were sold within the hour.

"The excitement surrounding the entire Z range has been fantastic, and it just goes to show there's still a real appetite for performance in Australia," says Nissan Australia Managing Director, Adam Paterson.

"The new Z Nismo reaches new performance heights for this incredibly iconic nameplate, and I'm excited for our customers to experience it for themselves."

The incoming Nismo will launch in Australia at the end of the year, bringing more power and performance across the Z board.

Listing at $94,000, around $18k more than the just repriced Z, the halo version gets a power boost of 11kW and 45Nm to a total 309kW and 520Nm.

It's auto-only, with a Nismo-tuned nine-speed with paddle shifters. There's also 19-inch RAYS alloys, which are wider and lighter than the wheels on the regular Z, and it wears bigger front brake rotors.

There's also Nismo aero and chassis enhancements, Nismo-tuned drive modes and launch control, and new Recaro front seats.

Andrew Chesterton should probably hate cars. From his hail-damaged Camira that looked like it had spent a hard life parked at the end of Tiger Woods' personal driving range, to the Nissan Pulsar Reebok that shook like it was possessed by a particularly mean-spirited demon every time he dared push past 40km/h, his personal car history isn't exactly littered with gold. But that seemingly endless procession of rust-savaged hate machines taught him something even more important; that cars are more than a collection of nuts, bolts and petrol. They're your ticket to freedom, a way to unlock incredible experiences, rolling invitations to incredible adventures. They have soul. And so, somehow, the car bug still bit. And it bit hard. When "Chesto" started his journalism career with News Ltd's Sunday and Daily Telegraph newspapers, he covered just about everything, from business to real estate, courts to crime, before settling into state political reporting at NSW Parliament House. But the automotive world's siren song soon sounded again, and he begged anyone who would listen for the opportunity to write about cars. Eventually they listened, and his career since has seen him filing car news, reviews and features for TopGear, Wheels, Motor and, of course, CarsGuide, as well as many, many others. More than a decade later, and the car bug is yet to relinquish its toothy grip. And if you ask Chesto, he thinks it never will.
