Subaru STi teaser

Comment

Subaru has issued a teaser shot of its eagerly anticipated new Impreza WRX STi which makes its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 24.

While the image itself is mysteriously darkly lit for a sense of drama, enough is revealed to show the car to be substantially different from the standard model.

Technical details are still under wraps on the turbocharged range-topper with huge wheel arches, but it is expected to be more powerful than the current 206kW at 5600rpm.

Prices are expected to be close to the $60,000 mark when it arrives in Australia early next year.

Spy reports after the sightings of a heavily disguised STi on the Nurburgring test track in Germany; suggest that the STi will have much wider fenders both front and rear to accommodate bigger, wider performance tyres.

The front air dam is also wider and more upright and includes a scoop.

At the rear, the prototype shows off its quad exhaust pipes.

The prototype is also equipped with Recaro seats.
