Excitement about the British-built Land Rover Defender lookalike, the Ineos Grenadier, has now bumped up a fair few notches with news that those who plan to buy one of the hardcore 4WDs will have access to a huge range of aftermarket accessories.

The Grenadier will be available to buy in Australia in the final quarter of 2022.

The British-made off-road wagon – a clear homage to the Land Rover Defender with nods to the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen – will have a BMW 3.0-litre straight-six petrol (210kW/450Nm) or diesel (185kW/550Nm) engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, permanent four-wheel drive, and front, centre and rear locking differentials.

The boxy off-roader will have a ladder frame chassis, live axles front and rear, as well as coil springs all-round. It will be built in Hambach, France.

Inside the Grenadier, it is expected to have an old-school dashboard and an overhead console, and it will sport a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia unit, durable Recaro seats, wipe-down surfaces, removable rubber flooring and drain plugs.

With Ineos Automotive revealing more details on their Grenadier ute, which is due to arrive here in 2023, it's obvious that plans are afoot for a full complement of accessories for their work-and-play truck as well.

Head of sales and marketing APAC (Asia-Pacific) at Ineos Automotive Justin Hocevar said the ute would be a crucial part of an ongoing strategy in the region.

Ineos Automotive is aiming for the Grenadier to be compatible with parts from the brand itself and third-party providers, such as Aussie aftermarket heavyweights ARB and Ironman 4x4.

Aftermarket gear will include even more robust underbody protection than standard, front and rear protection (think nudge bars, bull bars), storage platforms and much more.

A Grenadier test vehicle, equipped with a snorkel, heavy-duty bash plates, side steps and rated vehicle-recovery points front and rear, has reportedly been seen in Melbourne, presumably on its way to or from real-world off-road testing.

The two-seat entry-level commercial version of the Grenadier will have a starting price of $84,500 plus on-road costs (“indicative pricing, not finalised”, according to Ineos Automotive).

The wagon will launch with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty with roadside assistance, and a five-year service plan will be available from new, but no pricing for that was available at time of writing.
