Mazda CX-7 2007: Slow upshifts causing high fuel consumption?

MY 2007 Mazda CX7 is very thirsty, which I believe is partly because the automatic transmission doesn't shift up when it should. Does Mazda have an engine/gearbox-management software upgrade available to fix this?

I CONTACTED Mazda and was told no upgrade is available for the CX7.
