Golf diesel engine rattles

My 2011 VW Golf 1.4 diesel DPI has done only 24,000 km, but already it has had two computer recalls and the national recall for the 7-speed DSG auto. Recently the particulate filter light came on and I was told by the dealer to give it a hard run and the light should go off. This in fact happened, but recently the engine has developed a rattle when under load or changing between gears. It is sounding like a bucket of bolts and when I took it to the dealer I was told it was normal. It has become worse and does not sound normal. I have had a lot of diesels before and this sounds like a serious issue in the injector pump or injectors. I have even had people comment on the engine rattle when I drive. I'm concerned as it will soon be out of warranty.

There have been some reported issues with the fuel pump failing, but when it happens the engine just shuts down and won't restart. There are also reported issues with the solenoid injectors used, and I suspect that could be where your issue lies. I would take it back to your dealer and demand it be investigated and fixed.
