Cruze transmission problems (Part 7)

I realised that something was not right with my 2010 Holden Cruze CD when reverse gear started to feel faulty. My usual mechanic had a look and found the transmission oil burnt and I was told it required replacing. It was fine for a short drive, but a day after replacing the oil, my gears started slipping and now the car would not go above 40km/h. The reverse gear does no even work any more. I managed to get my car to the closest dealership at the time and reported the problem, and demanded that they replaced it. Now Holden has come back and said it was the mechanic's fault of overfilling the transmission oil by three litres causing the unit to fail, but the gears were already slipping before I even went for the service. I am stuck between the mechanic and Holden and neither of them wants to take responsibility. Who is at fault?

There is a long and sad history of transmission failures on the Holden Cruze, and yours appears to be yet another case. Go direct to Holden and register your complaint and don't accept the explanation Holden has previously given to you. That's not the problem, the real problem is that the automatic transmission in the Cruze is prone to failure. Holden is replacing problem transmissions for owners who make enough noise, so go for it. If you get fobbed off again go straight to the CEO.
