After many months deciding on a 4WD to tow our 1.7-tonne caravan around Australia in the coming years I have finally whittled it down to either a Mitsubishi Pajero or an Isuzu D-MAX King-cab with aluminium tray. I like the latter, but I have heard from a reliable source that in both South Australia and Northern Territory mining companies, there have been reports of chassis cracking due to the harsh corrugated roads and conditions. Have you heard of anything from your sources?
Mining company utes operate in the harshest environments there are, so I wouldn't take a lot of notice of hearsay reports of problems. The chassis might indeed crack under the stress of the mining site, but that's a far different environment than anything you will encounter in your travels.
