I was speaking to a woman the other day who owns a three-year-old VW Golf with the 1.4TSI engine. She just put it in for its three-year service and was charged for an air-con re-gas and de-carbon of the engine. I thought both of these things were a bit irregular for such a late model vehicle with a high-tech engine. She feels ripped off that what was expected to be a $600 service blew out to $1200.
I would also feel ripped off and would be refusing to pay for it, particularly if it was done without my consent. Have the dealer justify their actions; it seems on the surface to be a case of over-servicing.
