A year ago I bought a new Mitsubishi Triton 4x4 GLR manual diesel and ever since it has had a problem with surging on cold start up. You can't go under 20 km/h without it kangaroo hopping! The dealer has acknowledged the problem, but doesn?t know how to fix it. Mitsubishi Australia has told me that a diagnosis and fix could take anywhere from weeks to years. Is this the norm with a new car problem? Also on cold start up the gearbox rattles its head off until warm, which I also bought to their attention, only to be told it's the nature of the beast. I would appreciate your thoughts as my new car experience has left me a bit in the dumps.
It’s a great feeling when having spent many tens of thousands of dollars you get treated badly by the dealer isn’t it. Thankfully it’s not the norm, but it does happen and it shouldn’t. If I were you I would be very angry that I have been sold a car that is faulty and I would demand a replacement car, or my money back if they couldn’t fix it within a reasonable time. A week or two should be enough to come up with a fix; a year or more is ludicrous. You need to stand up for your rights.
