How to sell my '88 Toyota Celica cabriolet?

It depends on its condition. If it’s in top shape it would be worth advertising it through one of the enthusiast type classified magazines, or even a classic car auction. If it’s not up to scratch trade it in, put a ‘For Sale’ sign on it and park it in prominent places. You could also advertise it on sites like Carsguide.

How much is a '99 Toyota Celica SX-R?

It’s worth around $5000, and I wouldn’t hold on to it in the hope the value might eventually go up. I doubt that it will, and even if it does, it will take a long time for it to happen.

Can you convert me?

FOR a stylish drive there's the VW Beetle cabriolet and the Mini cabriolet. Both look smart and are fun to drive, and you will be able to get them for about $40,000. Another way to go is to buy a coupe/convertible -- one that has a folding metal roof instead of a soft-top. That way you get the security and refinement of a coupe and the fun of a convertible. The VW Eos is a good one, as is the Holden Astra Twin-Top, but they will set you back about $50,000. For a sportier ride there is the Mazda MX-5 coupe/convertible, which is more fun but is only a two-seater. All those cars will be reliable and all represent good value.

What price for a classic?

CARS are regarded as classic when they reach 25 years old, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a higher value. To find the nearest club contact your local motoring organisation. It would probably be worth $3000 as a trade-in, perhaps $4500 in a private sale.

Best fuel for pensioner

YES, the RA60 Celica should run satisfactorily on unleaded without an additive, though I would run it on high octane unleaded petrol because your car will have a relatively high compression ratio and may ping on regular unleaded.

What's my toyota worth?

WHAT you have is more a curiosity than a classic. Even with its very low mileage, it's still regarded as a used Celica by the trade, and it's not yet old enough to be considered a classic by enthusiasts. Whether the Celica will ever be considered a true classic is open to debate, but that's a matter that will be resolved in time. An average 1990 Celica SX is valued at about $11,000, but yours may attract a higher price because of its low mileage. I would think $15,000 is not out of the question. There are a number of ways to sell it: the classifieds, specialist magazines or by auction at one of the specialists such as Shannons.
