The Rolls-Royce Ghost was launched in 2009 as a smaller and more approachable sibling to the Phantom. It was named after the Silver Ghost of 1906, one of the brand’s most famous early models. Built on a modified BMW 7 Series platform, the first-generation Ghost aimed to bring new buyers into the Rolls-Royce family while still offering the craftsmanship and presence expected of the brand.
In 2014 the Ghost received a mid-life update known as Series II. This introduced revised headlights, updated suspension and improved driver assistance technology. The long-wheelbase version remained available for buyers who wanted more rear-seat space. In some markets the model was also sold under slightly different naming conventions, such as Ghost Extended Wheelbase, to separate it from the standard car.
The second-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost arrived in 2020. This version shifted to a new aluminium platform shared with the Phantom and Cullinan SUV. It introduced all-wheel drive, more advanced electronics and a quieter cabin. Today the Ghost sits as the entry point into Rolls-Royce ownership, balancing traditional luxury with modern engineering for customers who want a more discreet alternative to the Phantom.
The line-up currently starts at $645,000 for the Ghost (base) and ranges through to $772,900 for the range-topping Ghost Black Badge.
You can have your Rolls-Royce painted in bespoke colours of your choice, or you could go for one of its many lovely options including Mustique Blue, Diamond Black, Silver, Sea Green, Smokey Quartz, Madeira Red or Midnight Sapphire.
From deep pile carpet so rich and lush you could lose your keys in it if you drop them to the stars in the headlining above you, everything about the interior of the Rolls-Royce Ghost feels special, and hugely expensive. And it smells lovely too.
The new Ghost arrives with a 6.75-litre turbocharged V12 engine making 420kW and 850Nm.
The Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II shoves its 2.5 tonnes of plush to 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.
The new Ghost features new trim options including natural open-pore Grey Stained Ash design elements. And a sumptuous new bamboo rayon textile called Duality Twill. And there’s a night-sky inspired illuminated fascia that apes elements of time-lapse celestial photography, part of the central grass panel that stretches the length of the dash.
The cheapest new Rolls Royce is the Ghost SWB, which is listed at $625,000. For more info on the latest models, check out our pricing and specs page, and you'll find all Rolls Royce reviews and news here.
