A few weeks ago, the mad scientists at Life OD created a monster, the world’s first quad-turbocharged Mazda 323.

Using possibly the dodgiest set-up ever, boost is fed to the engine through rubber piping with each cylinder responsible for spooling a single turbo.

After failing to out-drag a Supra, the gang decided to place the 323 onto a dyno to see how much power the sedan is making.

Without the turbochargers, the four banger produced a whopping 48kW (64hp), but with forced induction it pushed out more, right?

Yes... A whole 3kW more.

Obviously not satisfied with the results, a shot of NOS was added, so surely the power would jump to 100, 150, maybe even 200kW?

While it made a difference, the figure was still a miserable 68kW (90hp), which is less than a 1.6-litre BJ 323 made when it was new in the late ‘90s.

Do you think this 323 is capable of more? Let us know in the comments.

Following a passion shared by his father and grandfather, Mitchell’s love of cars really kicked off with his Godfather’s purchase of a new Mazda RX-8. Exposure to that car changed his world forever, leading to an RX-7 obsession. To feed his automotive addiction, Mitchell decided to become a motoring journalist and made his mark at several high-profile motoring publications before landing at CarsGuide. While he is a rotary loyalist, Mitchell also has a massive love for Aussie muscle cars, and dreams of one day getting behind the wheel of a Charger R/T E49 (if anyone will let him). His other passions include Queensland, and spending Saturdays with the boys.
