SubiNats in an annual event for Subaru owners and enthusiasts from around the country to come together and celebrate all things Subaru.

This year's event was hosted again by the WRX Club of Victoria team over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of July at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. The event is held over two days, the first being a social day for many of the participants with a cruise held on the roads around the Gippsland Region.

It was a early start on the Saturday and a cold one at that, the temperature was in the very low single figures when the group of around 20 cars set off just after 8am from the waterfront of Cowes.

The early start or cold weather wasn't enough to put off these Subaru-folk.

After a brief stop on the cliff top just down the coast for a photo opportunity, the group headed inland to let the Boxer engines have a good run.

After a couple of hours of driving the group headed back to the next event of the weekend, the 'Mega Meet' held at Philip Island track. It is a casual event for participants to park up and show off their cars and chat with others members.

The Brumby (or BRAT, in America) made an appearance.

There was a good variety of cars from BRZs to Foresters and even a Subaru Brumby.

In the afternoon, many headed off to go karting at the local karting track. That night they held a sitdown dinner, for the entrants, held above the pit complex at the track.

Sunday morning dawned with clear skys and the forcast for a stunning winters day at the track. 120+ cars were entered in the Sprints. After a drivers briefing cars hit the track at 9am.

It didn’t take long for trouble to strike some drivers after a couple hit frost on track and ended up the wall, their day done.

You're just going to have to imagine the noise...

Whilst the sprint entrants were out on track circulating there was Show and Shine being held in the pit area. With a great selection of cars from a jacked up Forester, a slammed Outback and rare 22B.

This rare 22B was a notable part of the Show & Shine in the pits.

Visiting the event was Subaru Australia’s ambassador and Rally driver Molly Taylor, she spent time interacting with fans, signing autographs and even signing fans cars.

The main event was was a war of attrition, many competitors dropping out due to mechanical issues. At the end of the day there was a winner crowned and that was Nev Scott and the team from CMA Racing, topping the time sheet with a 1:41;5929.

There is no date or state set as yet for the 2018 SubiNats Event, but be sure to keep an eye out on the website for detail because if you are a Subaru Enthusiast, it's an event you won't want to miss.

Growing up in Tasmania, car culture hardly surrounded Joel. But between Targa, the Australian Rally Championship and V8 Supercars there was enough to build Joel’s passion for all things automotive. Joel got his first big break covering the Australian Rally Championship in the mid 2000s.  His two biggest publishing accomplishments were for two publications which are no longer in print, first one photo published in Motorsport News in the mid ‘90s and then his first feature story published in Speed magazine in the mid 2000s, both from rally events.  He now combines that automotive passion every day in his photography and writing. The best car he’s owned to date was a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX, with the sound of the boxer engine and handling causing him to yearn for another.  If he had the money, he would buy a Dodge Viper from the early ‘90s. Did someone say 8.0-litre V10?
