Ford's forgotten Falcon Transformer: meet "Falcatron"

By Mitchell TulkMitchell Tulk
Autobots, roll out!

Back in 2012 when Ford was struggling to shift Falcons out of its showrooms, the Blue Oval began looking at new ideas to help sell its large sedan.

At the same time, High Moon Studios released Transformers Fall of Cybertron, so the two companies teamed up to create a robot that would promote both products.

Fans were then given the choice of whether the character would be an Autobot or a Decepticon, and what vehicle it would transform into.

The options included an Ford FGII Falcon XR6 Turbo, a G6 E Turbo or a ‘classic’ Falcon ute.

Who knew Aliens had Ford Falcons too? Who knew Aliens had Ford Falcons too?

Over 1000 people voted through Facebook with the majority electing for the new Transformer to be an Autobot and an XR6 Turbo.

Named "Falcatron", he was finished in Ford Blue, and incorporated a lot of design elements from the game - which explains why this XR6 looks more like a space-age Falcon than one you would see on the road.

The same treatment was later given to a Ford Ranger, which became Autobot Torque.

He looks ready to deck a Decepticon. He looks ready to deck a Decepticon.

Interestingly, neither character ever appeared in Ford advertising and have never been seen in any other Transformers' media.

Should Falcatron make an appearance on the big screen? Let us know in the comments.
