The MG S5 EV arrived in Australia in early 2025 as a dedicated successor to the popular ZS EV. Unlike its predecessor, which shared a platform with petrol models, this small SUV sits on a bespoke electric architecture known as the Modular Scalable Platform. It shares this foundation with the MG4 hatchback to offer rear-wheel drive and improved driving dynamics for local buyers.
The model first debuted in China in late 2024 as the MG ES5 before expanding to international markets. In some regions, it is also referred to as the MG 4X to align with the brand’s newer naming conventions.
The MG S5 EV launched in Australia with two main trim levels, Excite and Essence. Buyers can choose between two battery sizes that provide different driving ranges. This model represents a significant step forward in refinement and safety for the brand, helping it compete in the growing compact electric SUV segment.
