The MG IM5 large sedan debuted in 2025 under MG’s new IM sub-brand, which stands for Intelligence in Motion. It premiered in Australia with its first public reveal in June 2025. At launch, it adopted a sleek executive saloon form, aimed squarely at buyers looking for luxury-style EV performance.
From its launch, the MG IM5 offered a trio of variants. The Premium model uses a 75kWh battery with rear-wheel drive; the Platinum and Performance variants feature a 100kWh battery, with the Performance offering all-wheel drive and blistering sub-3.3-second 0-100 km/h pace. It also had advanced features like four-wheel steering, a massive 26.3-inch infotainment display, AI-assisted parking and Rainy Night Mode.
Today, the MG IM5 large sedan stands as MG’s flagship electric executive offering in Australia. It is known globally as MG IM5 or, in China, the IM L6 — but here it is an accessible premium EV choice with strong technology and performance credentials.
The line-up currently starts at $60,990 for the Im5 Premium and ranges through to $77,990 for the range-topping Im5 Performance.

Available colours for the MG IM5 are ‘Athena White’, ‘Rembrandt Grey’, ‘Nevis Blue’, ‘Ares Black’ and ‘Raphael Beige’.
All grades of the IM5 feature a double-glazed panoramic roof, power-adjustable (12-way driver, six-way passenger) heated and ventilated front seats (also heated in the rear), dual-zone climate control, 20-speaker audio, 256 colour ambient lighting, a power tailgate (with hands-free function) and alloy rims. There’s also wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, LED headlights, keyless entry and start, wireless device charging (50W), a 10.5-inch central control screen and a sweeping 26.3-inch upper screen.
The interior is light and bright thanks to the enormous panoramic sunroof. The curves of the exterior design continue inside with soft-padded surfaces around the dash and doors, but the straight edge came out for the 10.5-inch central media screen and vast 26.3-inch upper display. It has next to no buttons. Even exterior mirror adjustment is directed from the screen to a multi-function steering wheel control.
The MG IM5 Premium is powered by a 217kW/450Nm electric motor driving the rear wheels only. Also RWD, the mid-grade Platinum ups those outputs to 300kW/500Nm while the all-wheel-drive, dual-motor Performance flagship boasts combined outputs of 572kW/802Nm.

The IM5 is a liftback so the boot aperture is generous and a capacity of 457 litres with the rear seats up is decent for a car of this size. Volume expands to 1290 litres with the rear seats folded and there’s a modest 18-litre ‘frunk’ under the bonnet.
The MG IM5 Premium is claimed to accelerate from 0–100km/h in 6.8sec with a top speed of 200km/h. The mid-grade Platinum sits at 4.9sec and 220km/h, while the flagship Performance hits 100km/h in just 3.2sec before storming on to a maximum velocity of 268km/h.
The MG IM5 Premium has a claimed (WLTP) range of 490km, rising to 655km for the mid-grade Platinum, dropping to 575 km for the ultra-fast Performance.
