The GAC M8 people mover began life in 2017 as the Trumpchi GM8 in China. It was positioned as a larger, more upmarket alternative to mainstream family vans. From the start it targeted private buyers rather than fleets. Early models focused on space, comfort and petrol power. In some export markets it was sold as the GAC GN8, a name still used outside China.
A major update arrived in 2020, bringing the M8 name and a sharper design. The second-generation GAC M8 launched in 2022 with a new platform, more safety tech and a stronger push into the premium end of the segment. Hybrid powertrains were added for lower fuel use. Interior quality improved to better match rivals from Japan and Korea.
Today, the GAC M8 sits as the brand’s flagship people mover. It is aimed at families and buyers chasing comfort over badge prestige. In markets like Australia, it is positioned against models such as the Kia Carnival and Toyota Granvia.
The line-up currently starts at $79,999 for the M8 Gl and ranges through to $86,999 for the range-topping M8 Gx.
