Unfortunately I don't think there is much you can do about it, the car is 10 years old and well beyond the warranty. It's even stretching the limit where you might expect goodwill. You bought an old car without inspecting it, took the salesman's word, and bought a model with known issues.

All of today's diesel engines in light commercials are of the common-rail variety, which operate with very high pressures. That leads, in particular, to wear in the fuel injectors. They're all the same, most use the same pump and injectors and as a result they generally have similar wear patterns. I don't believe the Transit is any better, or any worse, than the others in this respect.

It's possible, but until we know more about the shenanigans that went on at VW we can't say how dirty the diesel VWs are.

It could be because you ordered a manual. Contact Ford directly and ask for the reason the car has been delayed. At the same time ask them if there are other cars in the system or in stock that you might be able to get before March.

Jeep is overhauling its customer support systems in Australia and I'm much more confident in recommending the Grand Cherokee. It will also be fine for your towing and any off-road work.

It's an easy choice for me. I'd go for the VFII SS-V with the new Corvette engine. It's a new high-water mark for Holden and, in any case, all the XR8s have already been allocated to owners.

What you're describing seems abnormal. Have you whacked a kerb with the left rear, I'm guessing the wheel alignment has been knocked out. Get the rear wheel alignment checked.

I couldn't recommend either one, both have issues with their transmissions as your homework suggests. I would urge you to look at similar models from brands such as Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and Kia.

It sounds to me like the fuel is vaporising for some reason. Have you had any sign of the engine overheating? Check the cooling system to make sure all is well there and the engine is not getting too hot. Also check the fuel delivery system, the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines and fuel return system. Consider putting some fuel system cleaner in the next time you fill up with fuel.
