As car companies go, Mazda can do little wrong at the moment. Several of its vehicles are the top of their respective categories, including the nation’s most popular SUV, the CX-5.

The company’s all new CX-9 – a replacement for the first generation version - has followed suit, dropping straight into the number one position in the large SUV category, beating the likes of Toyota's popular Kluger

Verdict

The CX-9 has been designed to cut a sharp figure in the average driveway, and it certainly does that. While the GT is over $60,000, it looks every bit of it, though its sheer size may put off some prospective buyers.

It's incredibly easy to drive, very quiet, and can do a long trip with little fuss. It also looks after all its passengers in a calm, quiet and well-equipped environment.

The price ticket is up there, but the CX-9 is a fantastic car for a larger family that likes the nicer things in life – and isn't fussed about a Euro badge.
