Peugeot has confirmed further details of its seriously long range E-3008 and E-5008 electric cars.
After debuting nearly a year ago, the five- and seven-seat medium SUVs are ready to be fitted with a huge 96.9kWh made-in-France battery pack for 700km and 668km of WLTP driving range, respectively.
That’s enough to out-punch the Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor (659km), Ford Mustang Mach-E Performance (600km) and Tesla Model Y (533km).
Like the regular E-3008 and E-5008, the new Long Range models are made at PSA’s Sochaux plant with batteries produced just on the other side of the country in Douvrin.
Both are based on the Stellantis STLA Medium architecture that supports battery-electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid versions of the mid-size SUVs.
The Long Range model is paired exclusively with a single front-mounted electric motor developing 170kW (up 13kW from the regular car) and a new battery pre-conditioning system to speed up charging on long journeys.
Public fast-charging is capped at 160kW, some way short of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6’s circa-220kW peak but still enough to zap the E-3008 and E-5008’s big battery from 20-80 per cent in 27 minutes.
Three trim levels are offered in Europe: Allure base model, Emotion mid-spec and Excellence range-topper.
All variants have the latest take on Peugeot's controversial ‘i-Cockpit’ cabin design, this time with high-seat screens panoramically covering 21 inches of real estate.
Peugeot’s importer Inchcape recently axed Citroen from Australian showrooms but has previously committed to bringing the latest Peugeot E-3008 into the country in the second half of 2024. We’ve heard no updates lately, including on the new Long Range models.
To be competitive with rivals, a Long Range version will need to cost around the $70,000 mark in entry Allure guise, with prices climbing to reflect added equipment.
The pair will officially debut at next week’s Paris Motor Show, along with myriad concepts and new models from French brands.
