In a world of electric cars, plug-in hybrid and shrinking petrol engines, some are trying to bring back V8 grunt.

The Jensen Interceptor is the latest V8-powered machine to be confirmed for production. The 1960s and ‘70s British classic will be reborn as a clean sheet design from Jensen International Automotive (JIA), which specialises in restoring and modernising original Interceptors.

JIA won’t be cramming in a Chrysler-sourced 6.2- or 7.2-litre V8 like Interceptors of old, instead it will use a bespoke V8.

UK outlet Autocar understands it will use the 6.2-litre V8 from the previous Chevrolet Corvette.

This engine typically makes 370kW and 613Nm, but it could be tweaked to fit JIA’s bespoke claim.

The company says its aim is to deliver a thoroughly modern take on luxury British GT cars and to ensure a fully analogue driving experience.

This points the car maintaining its rear-wheel drive roots and it will most likely be fitted with a manual transmission.

It will feature a new, contemporary design, which means the boxy front end and glass house rear might not be part of the resurrection.

A sleek silhouette image revealed it’ll keep the classic fastback shaped rear end and long bonnet, which is classic GT styling.

Aussie fans wanting a piece of the new Interceptor will be left hanging.

The company said it will only build the cars in ultra low numbers for sale in the UK.
