Well that didn’t last long. Someone somewhere on the internet has leaked official photos of the new Subaru WRX Concept car two full days before it is due to be unveiled at the New York motor show.
The photos show what we’ve suspected for some time: that the new model will be vastly different from the Impreza sedan on which it is based, with every body panel -- including the doors -- changed for the first time.
Even the roof structure is completely redesigned to give the WRX a sleeker look and a lower centre of gravity, for better performance in tight corners.
We don’t yet know the size of the engine under the bonnet but we’re hoping Subaru doesn’t back away from the tried and tested 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder that we’ve grown to love.
The Subaru WRX Concept also shows that Fuji Heavy Industries has rediscovered its design mojo after a few forgettable design faux-pas. We only hope that the concept doesn’t lose too much of its aggressive looks. Fingers crossed.
We’ll update this story as soon as we doorstop the people on the Subaru stand at the New York show on Thursday morning. Wish us luck.
