Based on the X-Trail four-wheel-drive package, the Qashqai, (pronounced "cash-kai") is another compact crossover.

Nissan Motor Company Australia spokesman Karl Gehling said they were still evaluating the vehicle.

"If it's a success, it will arrive about 12 months after its launch in February in the UK."

As for the name, they were "looking at the options".

The British-built vehicle will be called Qashqai in Europe, but Dualis in Japan. It also will be sold in the Middle East and South Africa.
