Chinese electric car brand Skywell may have just raised the benchmark for luxury and innovation on a budget announcing the launch of its Skyhome sedan in the United Kingdom and the Australian importer has hinted it could be coming here, too.
Keeping up with the number of new Chinese electric car brands bringing their EVs to Australia is proving harder and harder, but one thing is certain, it’s providing variety and competitive prices to buyers. Skywell is another Chinese manufacturer to watch as it prepares to launch a range of vehicles in Australia.
A good way to crystal ball gaze into what new Chinese electric cars could be coming to Australia next is seeing what’s being launched in other right-hand drive markets such as the UK.
One such car is the Skywell Skyhome which UK importer Innovation Automotive has confirmed is arriving after the launch of the BE11 SUV. The Skyhome is a four-seater sedan with a sumptuous cabin, an enormous media screen for the second row passengers, rear-hinged back doors and a super sleek design.
Rivals to the Skyhome include the BYD Seal, Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model 3. Specification for motors and pricing is yet to be announced for the UK.

CarsGuide asked Skywell’s Australian importer EV Automotive if the Skyhome could be on the cards for Australia given it was being launched in right-hand drive for the UK.
EV Automotive Managing Director David Potter said, “EVA has been importing and distributing the Skywell range of commercial vehicles into Australia since 2022.”

“We are thrilled to announce that preparations are well underway for the importation of additional innovative vehicles, with plans to introduce several new vehicles including the new model SUV just in time for the holiday season, pending completion of the ADR certification.
“The new Skywell SUV promises to offer Australian consumers a blend of cutting-edge design, advanced technology, and superior performance, ensuring a compelling choice in the competitive automotive landscape. We believe this launch will mark a significant milestone for Skywell as we expand our footprint and commitment to delivering exceptional vehicles tailored to meet the needs of discerning drivers in Australia.

"We look forward to sharing more details with you as we approach the official release date,” he said.
The Skywell SUV referred to is the same vehicle as the BE11 arriving in the UK. While the name is yet to be announced for Australia this is a mid-size SUV measuring 4.72m in length with a range of up to 490km (WLTP) with the largest 86kWh battery on offer.

The arrival date for the Skywell SUV is expected to be at the end of this year or early 2025 and if the UK is anything to go by the Skyhome sedan could follow soon after.
