Holden Sandman to return

There is definitely some fun planned for the Commodore in 2015.

The Sandman is coming back to showrooms. It's not going to be quite the way we remember it but there is definitely some fun planned for the Commodore in 2015.

Holden is not going public yet with its thinking or styling but a 21st-century Sandman was one of the stars last week at a major Red Lion event that included confirmation of Mark Bernhard as the first Aussie to run the company since the late John Bagshaw.

The Sandman is not the only desirable newcomer that will break cover this year.

However, someone at the event tells us the Sandman badge is going to be applied to the Commodore ute and wagon. Unhappily, it won't mimic the V8Supercars Sandman styled by Tom Grech and built by Triple Eight Race Engineering but it will help Holden rediscover its mojo, something badly needed after so much bad news in recent years.

The Sandman is not the only desirable newcomer that will break cover this year. Based on the insider chat at Bathurst last weekend during the brilliant 12-Hour race for GT cars, we're expecting to see an updated McLaren 675 Long Tail and the GT3 track version of the Mercedes-AMG GT at the Geneva motor show, followed later in the year by the second-generation Audi R8 supercar and, perhaps most exciting, the baby "sports" McLaren that will go head-to-head with the Porsche 911.
