A new budget-friendly all-electric compact SUV has just been revealed.

Leapmotor’s compact A10 electric SUV has been displayed at the Guangzhou motor show for the first time.

Teaser images of the car were revealed earlier this week, showing a bubble-like face and a dark green paint job.

The teaser images showcases a similar overall silhouette to the larger offerings in the Leapmotor range like the C10 and B10, both of which will sit above it in the range.

It also houses a bump above the windscreen, which often houses advanced lidar systems for Chinese-market vehicles suggesting this technology will be available even on what should be the brand's cost-leading model in many markets.

The newly available image shows the car in green and brown colours, with a sectioned wheel design.

The crossover has a familiar curved headlight design, with the illuminated tri-strip LEDs spotted in the teaser images housed to around the main element.

It has a lift-up door handle and its charging port is located on the front left of the car, confirming an all-electric status.

Details remain scarce on the compact SUV, but it is planned to have up to 500km of range, according to the generous CLTC testing system.

The car will be 4200mm long, 1800mm wide and 1600mm tall, with a 2,600mm wheelbase.

This means it is very similar in size to the Toyota Yaris Cross, which comes in a hybrid in Australia, placing the A10 in the light SUV segment.

Many of the A10’s other rivals, if it was to come down under, offer hybrid and all-electric options.

A direct rival, the BYD Atto 2 will launch before the end of this year, while the Chery C5 is likely to be priced similarly as well.

It is unclear whether the A10 will come to Australia, but Leapmotor has said the model is aimed at global markets outside of China. Its right-hand drive status increases the possibility as does the range of Leapmotor variants already down under.

When contacted for comment, a Leapmotor spokesperson said there was nothing to confirm yet regarding the A10 in Australia.

There is no indication on price, but the larger B10 starts at $38,990 drive-away in Australia, so it could land in the high $20,000 to low $30,000 range to challenge the likes of the Atto 2.

Leapmotor’s C10 family SUV went on sale in Australia towards the end of 2024 as a mid-size hybrid or all-electric SUV, while its B10 small SUV went on sale this month.

Leapmotor is yet to make a splash in the Aussie market, with just over 500 sales so far.

The brand is planning to bring across its all-electric B05 hatchback in the first quarter of 2026 to compliment its expanding range.

There are also plans for a D19 large SUV to take on the serious off-road market, such as the Toyota LandCruiser and Nissan Patrol.

Leapmotor’s A10 will have its public debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show later this week.
