I OWN a 2005 Falcon XR6 Turbo ute. In January I had turbo problems and called the dealer to get them fixed under warranty, and they booked it in the day after the warranty ran out. The car was diagnosed with a faulty turbo and needs a $2800 rebuild. I was told Ford had denied the warranty, even though I booked it in before the warranty expired. Ford Customer Relations told me the dealer had told them the car had no service history. I told them that services to 30,000km were carried out by the dealer, and since then the car had been serviced three times, the latest 7000km ago. I have found a turbo for $850 with only 13,000km plus fitting, with a total cost of $1250. Who is robbing whom? So much for Ford and its customer relations. I have owned more than 30 Fords, but never again. I get the same treatment every time.
IF YOU have the service records, you have a case. Ford must honour its warranty, even if the car hasn't been serviced by a dealer. As long as you've had it serviced according to the book -- and have the records to prove it -- you have case for a claim. You can always go to Consumer Affairs Victoria for advice.
