I HAVE a 1986 Holden Rodeo manual two-wheel-drive aluminium-dropside utility. It has a 2-litre petrol engine with 150,000km on the clock and almost new 195R14 tyres. There are no special accessories. I would like to sell it privately and buy a similar-style, later-model utility. It is in good condition for its age, has been serviced and looked after, and garaged under cover for most of its life. I would like to know how to place a value on it. Also, does the market value vary significantly between capital cities or regional, remote and country areas? Because it's a useful farm vehicle, would it be better to try selling it privately in a farming area?
THERE are several ways to arrive at a selling price. Start by checking the Red Book and Glass's Guide websites, where you'll find price ranges. You might not be able to find the exact model listed, but the prices given for a similar model from the same year will still be a good guide to the value. From there you take into account the overall condition of the vehicle and the odometer reading. On the information I have I would think a price of $3000-$3500 would be close to the mark. There's not a lot of difference between capital cities, but you might get a better price in the bush.
