I am running an external transmission oil cooler on my 2000 Holden Jackaroo V6 automatic, which I use mainly for towing. The cooler is a stand-alone one and I have by-passed the standard radiator bottom tank. The oil temperature warning light has never come on so it must be running at a reasonable temperature, but would it be better if I was to reconnect the cooler in the radiator and run both coolers together?
I wouldn't reconnect it. If the aftermarket cooler is designed to operate as a stand-alone one, and it's doing the job, then I would leave well enough alone.
