After its first major service at only 45,000km my Ford Mondeo XR5 suffered an engine failure that resulted in a complete engine replacement. It appears that while travelling at about 100km/h the timing belt suddenly slipped seven notches and completely wrecked the unit. No one I have spoken to had heard of this happening before. Could you possibly offer a likely cause for this event? I am highly suspicious that the service had something to do with it as the motor blew up within 500km of the service having taken place. It was under warranty so I was spared the $20,000 cost or replacing the engine, but do you reckon Ford should refund me the $700 service charge?
In a word, no. Ford replaced the engine under warranty, so you're not really out of pocket on the deal.
