    Ask Smithy Xtra Petrol affected by timing belt

    Honda Honda Advice Honda Accord Honda Accord Advice Honda Accord 2000
    Before I recently changed the timing belt on my 2000 Honda Accord VT-iL it was doing around 600-650 km per tank full of petrol, but after the change it?s only doing around 400 km at best. I've changed the brand of petrol numerous times but they all show the same mileage. Please help me find a remedy for this problem?

    Did you change it yourself? Is the car performing as you would expect after the change? The first thing to do is to make sure the belt was correctly changed. If the belt change has been correctly done there is not reason it should affect the fuel consumption. Once you’ve established the belt is ok then start digging deeper into the normal things that would affect fuel consumption.
