Up to 300 Ford workers in Geelong may still have work after they are made redundant when the company stops making cars in Australia in 2016, after a small Melbourne company yesterday announced it was planning to recruit them. Power Systems Australia is looking to make gas-fired generators to export to markets in Asia and the Pacific. It currently employs 22 people in the Melbourne suburb of Campbellfield, but is planning to start a new factory in Geelong. The company currently makes electrical and electronic switchboards, and repairs and recalibrates power supply systems, but has also been researching the development and manufacture of power generation and supply systems. Ford announced earlier this year it would cease building cars in Australia, and in a special Ford event in August -- attended by global CEO Alan Mulally -- confirmed that we would see the next Ford Mustang here as a hero car in place of the Falcon.  

Hornet Signs, which is displaying the sticker on one of its pickup trucks in Waco, Texas, has gone into damage control after a flood of complaints."I wasn't expecting the reactions we got, nor do we condone (kidnapping) by any means," Hornet Signs owner Brad Kolb said. "It was more or less something we put out there to see who noticed it."He said the company created the stick-on mural and put it on a staffer's ute to show how realistic its signs are. A female employee is said to have volunteered to be tied up and photographed for the mural. Kolb added that since the controversy, he has seen a rise in decal orders.US news channels that featured the ute, and asked viewers their opinions found the majority of commenters were against portraying abduction of women as a business ploy. However, a few came out in favour, saying the mural had been valuable publicity for the business.What do you think? Bad taste or good marketing?

Parents now expect to drive their children around until they are in their 30s, a poll in the UK has found. And of those who regularly act as a parental taxi service, 15 per cent think they will be doing it forever.To give all these lifts parents cover an extra 2735 kilometres a year, according to the poll by insurer Allianz. Taking taxis over that distance would add up to a fare of $13,519.The study found that around 40 per cent of parents expect to stop driving their children when they pass their driving tests, with 19 per cent assuming it will continue until they leave home and 17 per cent until their children can afford cars.Parents of children aged between 13 and 16 drive the most extra kilometres each week, while those whose children are nine to 12 spend most time hanging around waiting for them. And like loyal chauffeurs, parents spend a total time equivalent to four days a year just waiting for their progeny to finish at classes and social events.How old is too old to be driven around by your parents? Tropical storm Kong-Rey, which has already dropped more than 500 millimeters of rain on Taiwan. The torrential rain caused a landslide in the southern city of Tainan. The spectacular slide on Saturday dislodged a boulder the size of one of the island's small apartments and sent it rolling downhill into busy trafficIt narrowly missed this Toyota sedan, whose occupants must have had a few terrifying seconds as it rolled towards then -- and looked large enough to roll right over the top of their car.Luckily, it lost momentum right beside the car, and settle back just inches away from crushing it. The driver and passenger were reportedly shaken but escaped with just minor injuries -- and were definitely very lucky.Watch the video here.
