Kidnapped woman mural creates a stir

A female employee is said to have volunteered to be tied up and photographed.

Hornet Signs, which is displaying the sticker on one of its pickup trucks in Waco, Texas, has gone into damage control after a flood of complaints.

"I wasn't expecting the reactions we got, nor do we condone (kidnapping) by any means," Hornet Signs owner Brad Kolb said. "It was more or less something we put out there to see who noticed it."

He said the company created the stick-on mural and put it on a staffer's ute to show how realistic its signs are. A female employee is said to have volunteered to be tied up and photographed for the mural. Kolb added that since the controversy, he has seen a rise in decal orders.

US news channels that featured the ute, and asked viewers their opinions found the majority of commenters were against portraying abduction of women as a business ploy. However, a few came out in favour, saying the mural had been valuable publicity for the business.

What do you think? Bad taste or good marketing?
