Audi A4 allroad 45 TFSI quattro 2021 review: snapshot

The allroad is the only vaguely off-road-focused variant of the A4, matching the wagon dimensions of the Avant a little extra ground clearance, some more rugged exterior styling and an off-road mode that uses the car’s traction and braking systems to deliver more off-road grip. This one costs $72,900, and gifts you a 2.0-litre turbo that will deliver 183kW and 370Nm, and a sprint to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds. It’s not lightning-fast, maybe, but the power feels plentiful for the nature of this A4.That engine pairs with a seven-speed S tronic auto, and thanks to quattro, you get AWD. Also new is a 12-volt mild hybrid system that can lower fuel use by up 0.3L/100km - now a claimed 7.4L/100km on the combined cycle. The allroad increases the A4’s dimensions to 4762mm x 1847mm x 1435mm, but also increases the cargo capacity to a considerable 495 litres with the rear seats in place, or 1495 litres with them folded flat. You can expect AEB with pedestrian detect, an exit warning system, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera - all of which contribute to the A4's five-star ANCAP safety rating. The high-tech stuff joins eight airbags (dual front, front side, side bags front and rear and curtains front and rear). You’ll also find LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a new 10.1-inch touchscreen that's Apple CarPlay and Android Auto equipped, a smart key with push-button start, leather trim, three-zone climate, standard navigation, DAB+ digital radio, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit (a 12.3-inch digital display that replaces the traditional driver's binnacle), as well as sportier exterior and interior styling, frameless mirrors and illuminated door sills, and a better Audi 10-speaker stereo.

The Nissan Navara is a nice middle-of-the-road (or is that track?) 4WD ute - nothing crazy, simply an effective quiet achiever in a market full of utes, some of them touted as truly spectacular on- and off-road, and tarted up as such. But the Navara is an understated workhorse and family mover with real potential as a weekend camping machine.

I'm a 4x4 novice but have just got an opportunity to buy a Nissan Patrol ST 2006 model. I've gone and visited and tested the vehicle and it seems in great condition for its age, it’s done 172,000km and it’s diesel. Is it too good to be true? The owner is heading home to Germany so needs it gone. I just wanted to check if you reckon it’s a good buy considering its age and what issues I should really look for.
