One very devoted enthusiast in the UK is re-enacting the famous car chase - regarded as the biggest in the history of internal combustion – the Mustang versus Dodge Charger battle in Steve McQueen's "Bullitt'' - but instead of taking it to the streets (of San Francisco), he's done it on a Scaletrix trackThe whole film - which is still being completed by Emigre and what's here is only a trailer - is filmed by stop-motion and using 1/32 scale cars and figurines and a handmade San Francisco background. It boasts excellent attention to detail and authentic audio.

A two-minute ad for Chrysler starring Eminem and a Volkswagen ad featuring a mini-Darth Vader that went viral before it even aired were two of the most talked-about spots during advertising's big night, Super Bowl XLV, in which Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25.Chrysler was one of nine automakers that took advantage of advertising's biggest and most expensive showcase, at $US3 million ($A2.97 million) for 30 seconds, to try to show they're back after two tough years for the industry. The cinematic third-quarter Chrysler ad starred Eminem driving through Detroit and introduced a new car, the Chrysler 200 sedan, amid gritty scenes of the city. A voiceover talks about how the city has survived going through "hell and back''."This is the Motor City and this is what we do,'' Eminem says.Another hit was a Volkswagen ad that showed a boy in a Darth Vader costume trying to use "The Force'' on objects, including the Passat. Volkswagen released the ad early on Youtube.com and it had more than 13 million views before the game even started. We've gathered some of the best car commercials on the list for this year for you below.

Opened in 1959, Daytona was last repaved in 1978. Over 30 years of hard racing and crashes has taken its toll on the surface, with lumps, bumps and potholes making the track more challenging.
Work started July 2010, and involved removal of the existing surface and lying of over 50,000 tonnes of new asphalt. To accomplish this, engineers had to consider the issue of laying road on the 31 degree banked section of the track. Several bulldozers were required to support the paver and roller, while a crane fed constant stream of asphalt to the paver.
NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers were the first to try out the new surface at its first event on December 15.

Gerald Sanctuary, a dementia sufferer from Hertsfordshire, parked the silver Honda sedan in a carpark when he went shopping in May 2008. But he forgot where he left it and was eventually helped home by a Good Samaritan. Despite a huge search for the car by his family, the car was never found - believed stolen - and remained where he left it. It was noticed by a carpark attendant (after three years, how could you miss it?). Mr Sanctuary's son-in-law used a battery charger and the car started immediately. Mr Sanctuary is now being looked after in a nursing home and his daughter Sophie is having the Honda serviced and plans to use it as a replacement for her own ageing car.

THE inclusion of several male models in this year's Pirelli Calendar prompted us to ask you whether it would appeal to women as much as to men.
It seems the answer is a resounding 'yes', judging by the amount of women who entered - and who figured strongly in the list of final winners.
Anne Costello of New South Wales takes home the first prize of a set of Pirelli Cinturato tyres, plus a copy of this year's calendar, with her answer that:
The Pirelli Calendar's artistic, sexy flare, would appeal to both men and women everywhere. Women love the artistic sleekness. The sensual women are men's weakness.
The calendar winner in Victoria was Jessie Worthington, with:
There's a heroine named Julianne Moore, who goes out to war, to even the score, kicks skinny models out the door, women's image finally restored!
In Queensland, the calendar went to Delia Tindal, who asked:
It's sexy. It's stylish. It's fun. It's everything appealing rolled into one. Please put my name on the list of who's won!
The South Australia/Northern Territory calendar went to Ron Gray for:
Pirelli makes you want to be, exactly what the eyes do see. For male and female I do feel, youth and beauty will always appeal.
In Tasmania, the winning entry was Jill King's:
Man or woman, car or tyre. It makes no difference which we admire. VIP or mere mortal, we all appreciate the Pirelli portal.
And Rod Birch won in Western Australia with a clever play on the Pirelli spelling:
Pictures of sheer beauty. Iconic tyre brand. Revered by others. Elect to choose distinction. Let him admire. Let her adore. Inspiration and quality beyond gender.

Or the worst film of all time? Quentin Dupieux's new film, Rubber, is the story of an old tyre that goes on a serial killer rampage. Sounds a bit like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes meets Shaun of the Dead, but the trailer is strangely compelling…
