Peugeot’s small car at the turn of the millennium was a breakthrough model with bold styling and curvy, asymmetrical body that was a step change from the 205 and 306 that came before.
The 206’s chasses oozed quality with athletic handling and pliant ride well-suited to rough Australian roads. A price not far above less dynamic Asian rivals helped sell a few locally.
Petrol engines ranged from a small 1.4-litre to popular 1.6 right up to the grunty 2.0-litre that featured in GTi and GTi180 flagships. Available in three and five-door, there’s also the dro-top 206CC that brings open air motoring at an affordable price.
The line-up currently starts at $2,310 for the 206 XR and ranges through to $9,350 for the range-topping 206 CC.
