At a first glance, you’re probably wondering why restore only half of a car? But – you’re wrong.
This amazing and rare 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ Coupe recently won the coveted ‘Best Preserved Vehicle Award’ at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy. This highly regarded classic car show began in 1929, featuring the best classics and exotics from Europe.
The owner of this particular SZ Coupe is Corrado Lopresto, who found the car sitting neglected and decided to make something unique out of this rare and desirable Alfa Romeo. “I decided to work on only half the car, leaving the other half exactly as found, freezing everything in time – dust included.” The car has not been restored, but painstakingly revived to ensure that the car’s originality took priority over cosmetic appearance.
The 50/50 appearance of the car visually shows the difference between barn-find and revived, and also proves that with elbow grease and precision care, preservation above restoration can yield amazing results. A worthy winner of ‘Best Preserved Vehicle’ and an amazing Italian Survivor.
