Red Bull brings a slice of Monaco to Sydney Harbour

By Mitchell TulkMitchell Tulk

Triple Eight pulled out all the stops to reveal its new ZB Commodore racer.

Imagine it’s the 80s and you’re at the F1 in Monaco, you have just pictured what Red Bull Holden Racing Team (RBHRT) pulled off today, except it's on the water.

On a pontoon sitting in Sydney Harbour, with a luxury yacht moored next to it, the team showchase its ZB Commodore Supercar with Jamie Whincup and Shane Van Gisbergen on hand to rip the covers off.

  • Take it off! Take it off! Take it off! Take it off! Take it off! Take it off!
  • The boys are back in town. The boys are back in town.

As glamorous as this sounds, the barge was continually moving, leaving us queasy and searching for a brown paper bag.

Next to the Supercar was the road-going ZB Commodore VXR, which as you can imagine doesn’t share many similarities with the race car.

  • Sadly, gone are the days of the Aussie built Commodore. (image credit: Mitchell Tulk) Sadly, gone are the days of the Aussie built Commodore. (image credit: Mitchell Tulk)

  • Pity if anyone goes overboard. Pity if anyone goes overboard.

The ZB racer will run a 5.0-litre V8 but (three) selected rounds will see the appearance of the twin-turbo V6 as a wildcard entry before the engine is rolled out across Holden teams for the 2019 season.

What do you think of the ZB Commodore racer? Let us know in the comments.
