Ken Block, the man behind the amazing Gymkhana Series of viral videos and the brand Hoonigan, has announced his plans for 2018.
Block will have a busy season ahead as he competes in various forms of motorsport across different continents.
His campaign kicks off this weekend in his '90s Ford Escort Cosworth Group A racecar at the Oregon Trail Rally, which will be followed by the New England Forest Rally (July 20-21) and the Idaho Rally International (September 15-16). The Escort will feature a custom livery by Death Spray customs.
The World Rally Championship round in Spain (October 25-28) will see Block behind the wheel of a M-Sport prepared 2017 Ford Fiesta RS WRC. (that's M-Sport as in the motorsport engineering company, not the BMW one.)
Block will appear at selected Rallycross rounds in the new American Rally Cross Championship (ARX), at Circuit of the Americas (COTA), July TBD round and Canada’s August 4-5 round as well as at the World RX round at COTA (September 29-30).
As part of his involvement with ARX, Block will be forming a technical and marketing partnership between Canadian rallycross star Steve Arpin and Hoonigan.
Arpins team, Loenbro, will continue to develop the Focus RS RX race car, that he and Block will drive, Arpins car will also now feature the same Hoonigan livery as Block. To help raise the teams profile Block and Hoonigan will be using the Hoonigans marketing skills to help Arpin’s RX program.
Also on the cards for 2018 will be a new Gymkhana video, GymkhanaTEN, which will appear on our screens in the last quarter of the year. Block will be working on an eight part documentary as well, called The Gymkhana Files, which will air on Amazon. He will also partner with Monster Energy to run two Gymkhana Grid Events in either Europe or South Africa.
We look forward to seeing how his year pans out.
