Used Mercedes-Benz C-Class review: 2007-2013
By Graham Smith · 03 Jun 2016
The C-Class was the entry to the prestige segment and still resonates as a solid choice. New The Mercedes-Benz C-Class was conceived to compete with the BMW 3 Series at the entry level of the prestige segment. When the W204 series C-Class arrived in 2007 it had the common Benz trait of coming in a bewildering range of

Used Mercedes-Benz C-Class review: 2007-2011
By Graham Smith · 07 Aug 2015
For a long time Mercedes struggled to get on terms with the BMW 3-Series, which was slaying them in the compact prestige market, but the C Class launched in 2007 was good enough to finally get the three-pointed star into the game. When should I replace my C280?
Answered by Paul Gover · 08 Feb 2016

It really comes down to finances and your needs. Personally, I would get out before 160,000km and the new C-Class is definitely a great choice. But don’t go overboard as even the basic C200 is a ripper and would be my pick.

Mercedes-Benz C200 2009: Topping up transmission fluid?
Answered by Graham Smith · 03 Apr 2015

If it has a dipstick it can, but you'll find your car doesn't. Automatic transmissions these days are so-called "filled for life", which means they're filled with fluid at the factory and there should be no need to regular checks or top-ups. If you want to change the fluid, which can be a good idea, you need to go to an auto trans specialist.

Electrical problems can quickly become costly but you will notice a big step down in comfort and class if you downgrade to a Hyundai. It's a sensible move on the budget front but make sure you understand the implications — take a long test drive in the Accent before you commit.

Options for retirement car?
Answered by Paul Gover · 18 May 2015

If you're retiring and you have the cash, you should reward yourself. I would recommend the excellent Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but not a diesel unless you do more than 30,000km a year.

Good sedan for long trips?
Answered by Paul Gover · 06 Apr 2015

A second-hand C-Class is a great choice but, if you can, stretch to the latest C200. It's a landmark car, gets The Tick from me and was an easy winner in our 2014 Car of the Year.

Mercedes-Benz C200: Can I move away from run-flat tyres?
Answered by Graham Smith · 24 Apr 2015

Yes, you can. Any normal tyre can be fitted to a run-flat rim.

Family SUV for $50k?
Answered by Paul Gover · 07 Mar 2016

For me, your best choice would be a Mercedes-Benz GLA (above left). It is the SUV of the baby Benz range, with good space and comfort, the space, safety and seats you need with a hatch to get access to the boot. It definitely gets The Tick from me.

Good options for a wagon?
Answered by Paul Gover · 23 Mar 2015

The Mazda6 is very good and great for the price but the Mercedes C-Class wagon is a couple of steps further up the ladder and an excellent car if you have the money.
