Document the problems with the car and any work that has been done on it since you’ve owned it and take them to JLR with a request that they advise you on what work they plan to do to fix the problems. If that doesn’t get a satisfactory response then go to your state consumer affairs office, or perhaps lodge a complaint with VCAT.
This could be anything form a broken or maladjusted gear selector lever or knob to a completely failed transmission. Along the way, the problem would be the torque converter, or even a case of low transmission fluid (that has escaped somehow).
But considering the reputation of these vehicles, you’d be wise to also consider an electronic problem as the cause here. A good workshop should be able to scan the vehicle to see if a fault code has been logged by the onboard computer. That’s the place to start, and then rule out other possibilities from there.
