The Infiniti QX50 launched in 2007 as the EX35 in North America before adopting the QX50 name in 2013. It was introduced as a compact luxury SUV to sit below the larger QX60, sharing its platform with the Nissan Skyline crossover in Japan. The first generation offered rear- or all-wheel drive and was powered by a V6, giving it a sportier edge than many rivals at the time.
In 2019 Infiniti released the second generation QX50 on a new platform with a longer wheelbase and more interior space. This update also debuted the brand’s variable-compression turbo engine, a world first in production cars. The shift marked a move away from the earlier V6, with efficiency and refinement prioritised for buyers. Styling followed Infiniti’s latest design language, with sharper lines and a more upscale cabin.
Today the Infiniti QX50 competes in the crowded mid-size luxury SUV market against established European brands. While Infiniti has pulled out of Australia, the model continues in the United States, China and the Middle East as a key part of the brand’s lineup. It sits alongside the larger QX60 and QX80, carrying forward Infiniti’s focus on comfort, technology and distinctive design.
