Have the brake rotors checked; they could be warped. It’s a common problem and they can be machined if they’re not worn out, or replaced if they are too badly worn.
Ford has been using cooler pipes that make it difficult to break into to fit an external cooler, but there's always a way around a problem. Take your car to AW Automatics in Ferntree Gully and have Andrew take a look at it.
You would have to think there is a problem with the control module, one that’s more widespread than we so far know about. Perhaps other readers could tell us about their experience.
We haven't received any reports of problems with wheel bearings on these cars. The Festiva was on the market for a long time and there was nothing to suggest there was a widespread problem with it, and while the Fiesta hasn't been here for a very long time it doesn't appear to have a history of problems in that area either.
Tyres are tricky because they are not normally covered by the warranty. They’re considered as fair wear and tear items. But scrubbing front tyres as you report would appear to be above and beyond “fair” wear and tear and I would certainly have a crack at Ford for compensation. Get as much information as you can from other owners to support your claim.
It does sound like it's a brake problem and should be able to be fixed by a brake specialist. You could also take it to a competent mechanic, who should be able to fix it, or a Ford dealer
It is quite common on the Territory; we’ve had plenty of reports of it happening. Past estimates suggest it costs $400-$600 to do the bushes.
You've done the logical things in replacing and/or machining the discs, and replaced the wheel bearings. Make sure there are no problems in those areas now. You could also check the brake master cylinder to make sure it is fully retracting when you take your foot off the pedal. Another Falcon owner has told us they found the master cylinder was holding the brakes on slightly and it was causing the discs to warp.
My information is that the 4x2 Rangers have a 63-litre tank and the 4x4 models have a 70-litre tank. It would seem odd, even unbelievable, that Ford would have the same part number for both tanks. If you read the small print contained in the brochures Ford, and other companies, issue you will find they include a disclaimer that says the company retains the right to discontinue or change the features, designs, colours, materials and other specifications of its products at its discretion. What that means is that the buyer should check the specifications before buying a vehicle. At least you now know the distance you can travel before needing to refill with fuel.
They fill the tyre with foam that supports it until you can get it replaced or repaired. They are reliable, but the foam can be a pain in the backside for the tyre people who have to clean it out in the case the tyre is repairable, and you are probably over-reacting a little.
