The Scirocco — a sporty two-door with seven-speed DSG transmission and adaptive chassis control — revives a 1970s cult nameplate and hints at the imminent Mark VI Golf.

The Scirocco is intended as an affordable sports car that can be driven every day. The seven speed manual-matic allows a lower first gear to avoid clutch slipping in slow-moving traffic, with the seventh intended for freeways.

VW Australia spokesman Jon Dawe reckons it's another year away if not more from these shores with discussions as to local specification and pricing yet to begin.
