Fuji had wanted to give the blue Impreza WRX hatch a high-profile launch in New York but with the leak years of planning have come undone.

The Impreza is clearly a big departure from the current car. It is said to be slightly bigger, more powerful and safer, with improved quality levels. Interior photos show a dashboard similar in style to the Tribeca all-wheel-drive, with a central satellite navigation system and a three-spoke steering wheel with audio and cruise controls.

Subaru has placed the trip computer at the top of the dashboard, just below the windscreen. The photos have sparked widespread talk on Australian and overseas motoring forums on the internet, with a lot of critical comment about the new car.
