Serious upgrade for pocket rocket hot hatch

A hot hatch has just been given a serious boost to its performance kit. 

Toyota’s GR Yaris has received some substantial dynamic and visual enhancements, adding a new variant.

It is roughly $10,000 more than the base variants of the GR Yaris, with the pricing for the rest of the range remaining the same. 

The GTS Aero Performance still gets the same 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, producing 221kW and 400Nm, but there are some big physical changes beyond these key stats. 

Most noticeably, the car has a manually adjustable rear spoiler, boosting high-speed handling and braking stability.

There is a hood-mounted cooling duct and grille to discharge heat from the engine, keeping it running cool under racing pressures.

Elsewhere, the car gets a new lip spoiler to enhance handling by keeping the car hunkered closer to the ground in addition to aerodynamic and handling benefits. 

Fender ducts situated between the front wheels and doors and a new floor cover further boost aerodynamics to better direct airflow under the car. 

It gets all the same gear as on the GTS variant of the car, which includes a limited-slip differential and high performance suspension. 

With a now six-strong GR Yaris lineup in Australia, the GTS Aero Performance is already available in showrooms.
