The 2019 Porsche Macan has made a final, lightly camouflaged appearance ahead of its official unveiling in China later this month, with the brand's top-selling model photographed undergoing high-altitude testing in South Africa.

The images were released officially by Porsche as part of a teaser campaign, with the Macan getting down and dirty on- and off-road in South Africa, before climbing 3400m above sea level in neighbouring Lesotho.

Porsche promises the updated Macan has been “significantly enhanced”, but you might struggle to tell for looking at it. In fact, aside from the head and taillights, the exterior looks much the same as the car it will replace. Inside, expect an equally light update, with new infotainment options - twin screens in the drivers binnacle and a 12.3-inch touchscreen in the central dash - headlining the cabin changes.

But while specifics are yet to confirmed, there is expected to be significant change under the bonnet. The diesel powertrain option was axed earlier this year, and the 2019 update should see the introduction of two new engine options.

The range is still expected to begin with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, though with a boost in power. Reports suggest the range will then step up to a 3.0-litre V6, which will find a home in the Macan S. Finally, the Macan Turbo is expected to make use of a turbocharged 2.9-litre V6.

Porsche will reveal all when the Macan is unveiled in China later this month, so watch this space for updates.
